Finding Sports at UCSD!

The college football season is here! Sadly, not for us Tritons...

However! If you, like me, are a huge sports fan, there is no need to worry! There are many ways to get your sports fix in beautiful San Diego!

SAN DIEGO PADRES

As much as it pains me to write about (Go Giants!), San Diego has a great baseball team this year, and as the season winds down, they are in the thick of a playoff race.

Petco Park is a great ballpark, and can be accessed by public transportation. What better way to make some new friends than by going out to the ballpark and perhaps watching some playoff magic...

SAN DIEGO CHARGERS

Disappointed that UCSD doesn't have a football squad? It's ok, the Chargers are in town, and while tickets might be a little pricey, it's definitely worth it. People have told me that Charger's games are some of the most fun things they've done, and even if you don't like them, you can always root for the other team! Also, UCSD is home to a lot of Chargers fans, so use that first Sunday of school to kick back and enjoy the game with some friends...or study, that could be important too.

DEL MAR RACETRACK

Just a few miles from UCSD campus is the beautiful Del Mar Racetrack. If hard-hitting football, or slow-paced baseball just aren't for you, check out the horses. Every race is exciting, and race day is such a cool experience! From the jockeys, to the horses, to all the fans in the grandstands, Del Mar Racetrack is a cool place to spend an afternoon. If you are 18, you can throw down a few dollars on Horse #3 and try to get lucky, but be sure not to lose it!

UCSD RECREATION

If being a spectator just doesn't quite cut it for you, UCSD has numerous ways to get involved with the sports community. RIMAC has loads of rec-classes, intramural and club sports, and the facilities to make sure you're always in top shape. There is so much offered at RIMAC, it would take forever for me to explain each thing, so instead I will share my new personal favorite sport...Racquetball!

First of all, in what other sport do you get to look this cool?

Racquetball is just one of the many things UCSD Recreation offers, and for me it was a great way to spend time with friends, but also to fill my need for competitive sports. RIMAC has many courts to play on, and they can supply you with all the necessary equipment...except for the short shorts...those are optional.

There are so many other ways to get involved with sports at UCSD, just don't be shy! Find something you enjoy doing, and do it!
