I'm pretty some of you are wondering.. what's the low down on the eating in college?! Students at UCSD are lucky enough to have their own campus' dining hall as well as the opportunity to grub at ANY of the other colleges' dining halls, not to mention the restaurants in PC and all around campus. For FAQs or more in-depth info on dining, you can visit http://hds.ucsd.edu/, but I thought I'd provide a little little little black book.. blog... on where/what to eat at UCSD!
In Warren:
We have the wonderful Canyon Vista, or "CV," which offers everything from pizzas, pastas, a salad bar, a deli, a grill, and new and exciting entrees offered every day, as well as drinks and assorted desserts. (and a great of the canyon, not to mention a roaring fireplace and a starlit ceiling for indoor ambiance^_^) For breakfast (which you should eat! It is truly the most important meal of the day!) CV makes it super convenient to grab a bagel or a hot ready-made breakfast entree. If you're into caffeine or pastries, there is also Earl's Place, located right above CV. I personally LOVEEE Earl's, it's not only theeee most convenient one-stop shop for snacks, Starbucks teas/coffees, signature drinks made by Warren's own awesome baristas, and odd/cute little trinkets, but it's also a great hangout place all day and night (Earl's is open until 1 am!) You can always find people studying, mingling, stocking up on red bull and hummus there :D
ERC:
Cafe Ventanas truly lives up to its name with windows stretching from floor to ceiling, and offers delicious meal options as well. Take the shuttle if you don't want to walk up the hill! It's worth the journey.
Sixth:
You MUST try the personalized pizzas at Foodworx... deeeliiicious! Sit outside and enjoy the sunlight while devouring your food :)
Marshall:
You can View the Ocean from Oceanview Terrace in Marshall ^_^ I love the dessert options at OVT, I used to grab some cheesecake and study while enjoying the killer view. Not far from OVT is Goody's, our campus' very own Chipotle. Well, it's actually Latin food.. and so so so so yummy. Underneath Goody's is the Goody's Market, if you want to grab a gatorade or quick snack after workin' up a sweat at RIMAC (the gym is right next to it).
Revelle:
Plaza Cafe keeps it fresh with an inventive menu- come here to fill up on comfort foods and lounge on a couch after a long day.
Muir:
Timbers is actually new this year- it will be opening in September. But there has been much buzz about it and I am very excited to try it out this year!
Keep in mind you can use dining dollars for the dining halls, as well as cash and Tritoncash. Check if they accept your card beforehand!
Other restaurants on campus include Burger King, Bombay Coast, Jamba Juice, Rubio's, Subway, Panda Express, Tapioca Express, Round Table Pizza, Shogun, Santorini, Tacone (these are all in PC East), the Loft, Croutons, Home Plate (burgers and sports, anyone?), and sooo many more places. http://blink.ucsd.edu/facilities/services/general/personal/dining.html has most of the restaurants- but you may not be able to use meal points at these places.
I hope this helped anyone who might've been curious about the dining situation at our school. You should ask around for other opinions or even better- try it out for yourself! I'll go eat with you :)
Happy eating,
Jessie (Jessica) Ma, Freshman OL
